BlizzCon 2018 in
Anaheim, CA 11/2 - 11/3
Our first BlizzCon has now come and gone. While we had originally been planning on finishing some new Overwatch costumes for this convention, with our cross-country move interrupting our progress we decided not to rush ourselves and just re-wear our existing costumes. Fenix, naturally, went more hard-core than Josh and went in cosplay for both days (whereas Josh had no interest in putting back on Soldier's suit for a second day of sweating). The convention itself was really unique in how narrow its focus is. To make it worthwhile you REALLY have to like Blizzard games, and - ideally - be interested in buying or trading Blizzard merchandise. This is a very merch-heavy convention, with lots of signage and booths trying to get you to buy things, but because it's all of the official merchandise there is less of the sense of discovery you get at the vendor hall or artist alley of a normal pop culture convention. The cosplay was impressive, as was to be expected, but also not as plentiful as many conventions. The ratio of cosplayers to non-cosplayers skewed towards the latter heavily, which isn't something we're necessarily used to. It was nice being the only people wearing the particular skins we were wearing, though. All in all it was fun to see friends and meet new people, and it's always great to get our picture taken, but it probably isn't quite worth the price of admission for us. |
